Raye gathers the scouts, in civilian form of course, and walks up the temple steps. The girls immediately notice the trophy case Raye had set up after her brother had moved in. "Whoa," Lita says in amazement, "Raye wasn't kidding about her brother winning so many trophies." 'And Mina's with him, dang it.' They only notice some of his soccer trophies before they move into the worship area. Serena runs in, late as usual, with Luna following behind, "Sorry I'm late. I had to get Luna..." Artemis follows Luna inside, "...and Artemis begged to come when I contacted Luna." "No sweat Meatball Head. I was late only that one time," says Raye. "I also said you couldn't jump me for being late," Serena argues. "That was for a casual meeting, not a scout meeting," Raye argues back. They continue arguing and sticking their tongues out at each other. Lita clears her throat to get their attention. They all sit down as Luna jumps into Amy's lap and Artemis curls up in front of Serena. "What we witnessed today was pretty unusual," says Raye "Tell me about it," says Serena, "We defeat one Nega-Creep and another one shows up." "That's not it. We've had things like that happen before," says Raye, "The first one seemed to concentrate on one of us at a time. The second actually spread his attack a little." "And then Tuxedo Inferno shows up again," Lita adds. "Yeah," says Amy, "I must agree with Lita on this one, that soldier said 'Good, you're here' when Tuxedo Inferno showed up. That must mean something." "The Negaverse seems to be plotting against us," says Lita, "Those soldiers and what they said to Tuxedo Inferno." "He did help us every time he's shown up," says Raye. "Speaking of showing up," says Serena, "Tuxedo Mask didn't even show up." "That's because the scouts were never in any real danger," says Raye. "The only ones who had any trouble were you and Lita," Amy says to Raye. Luna clears her throat to get the scouts' attention, "I know it is all too coincidental that he seems to show up just at the right moment, but there must be some way Tuxedo Inferno knows when to help you out." "You could try a fire reading tonight since Russell isn't around," says Serena. "Oh, Russell doesn't mind," says Raye, "He just sees it as another one of my religious practices. Besides, as I told you before, I found nothing on Tuxedo Inferno. I'll see what I can find out about the Negaverse and the reason why that soldier made that quote." "Then it's settled," says Luna, "Raye, find out what you can about what the Negaverse is up to. As for the rest of you, keep your communicators with you at all times. I'll fill Mina in on our meeting later." Negaverse headquarters... "Your highness," Jedite calls out. Queen Beryl looks back to see Jedite with a man in red and black armor and a red cape. "Only one?" Beryl says in surprise of seeing only one bounty hunter responded to the bounty. "I found the best, just like you said," says Jedite, "And he was even one of our own, so you can bet he's good." "A Negaverse bounty hunter, he'll be of good use," says Beryl. "Your highness, this is Titanius, a former champion of the Negaverse. He became a bounty hunter a long time ago. He owed me a favor and jumped at the pay we offered for the Mars Prince. He even offered to rid us of those pesky scouts as well." "The Mars Prince will make a good notch on my gun belt," says Titanius, "Whatever it is you demand, Your Highness, I'm at your service." He bows to the queen and his new boss. Beryl only smiles, "Ha, ha, ha, perfect. With a bounty hunter like him, we'll take Earth in no time." Mall... Russell arrives back at the mall and walks over to the water fountain. He waits at the fountain, where he figures Mina would meet him and wondering if she'd be mad at him leaving to do... well, let's not let her know about the Tuxedo Inferno thing. Meanwhile, Mina arrives at the department store not long after Russell arrives. She immediately makes her way to the mall and finds a way to cover up her little Sailor Venus secret. She enters a make-up store and quickly browses through blush and lipstick. Unsatisfied, she leaves the store in near terror, wondering if Russell's gonna be mad at her. She walks around the upper floor and passes by the fountain where Russell awaits her. She catches sight of Russell out the corner of her eye and runs up to the rail to call out to him. Russell looks up to see Mina waving at him and running towards a nearby escalator. Russell runs toward that very escalator, trying to get through the heavily crowded mall. Russell makes it to the escalator as Mina begins running down. They meet each other in the middle. Mina jumps over the rails with such athleticism and lands in Russell's arms, nearly knocking the star soccer player into the people behind him. Mina drags him away from the crowd when they reach the top of the escalator. Mina wraps her arms around him tightly, coming to tears. "I'm so sorry Russell I ran out on you, I'm so sorry..." "...Shhhh," Russell interrupts, with his finger over his lips, then hers, "I was just as guilty." They softly kiss as a small nearby crowd cheers and whistles at them. "I forgive you Mina," says Russell. "I forgive you too," says Mina. They walk towards the department store to finish their mall shopping. Russell shows Mina the coats and ties he had been looking at. "They look great on you, sweetie," says Mina. Russell takes the blazer and the double-breasted coat he was looking at earlier and takes a few neckties and bow ties. He takes them to a clerk to purchase them. Mina takes him to the women's wear area to look at dresses. After spending an hour browsing, as usual for Mina, she picks out a few appealing dresses and purchases them. "You'll look beautiful in them," Russell complements. "Thank you," says Mina. They make their way out of the department store and walk towards Russell's car. Russell looks at his watch as he opens the door for Mina, 5:18p.m. "I haven't forgotten about my surprise," says Russell. "Oh, I can't wait. What is it?" she asks. "You'll see," Russell replies with a smile. Russell starts his engine and pops in one of his new oceanic music CD's. "Beautiful music," says Mina. "Something from my past, my distant past, got me interested in oceanic music, but I don't remember from where," says Russell. He drives around town, taking his time getting to his surprise for Mina. She looks as he pulls up to the Movie Theater, "Oh, a movie." "Remember that movie I told you about last week," says Russell. "'The Light Warrior'?" Mina remembers. "Exactly," Russell replies. "But, the theaters have been flooded all day. There's no way you're gonna get tickets. They're all sold out," says Mina. "Look in the glove box," says Russell, pointing to it. Mina opens the glove box to find two tickets for 'The Light Warrior' 7:00 show. "Oh Russell," she says, becoming speechless. As Russell turns the engine off, she wraps her arms around him and kisses him deeply and passionately. "You're welcome," says Russell, getting her message. They walk toward the Movie Theater with Mina's arms wrapped tightly around his one arm. "How did you get your hands on those tickets?" she asks. "I stood in line for an hour and bought them yesterday," says Russell. "Oh, you're so sweet," she says as she gives him a peck in the cheek. They get in the long line and wait, even though the movie doesn't start for another hour. Mina wraps her arms around Russell and holds him tightly as the line moves along at a snail's pace. "I think Lita likes you," says Mina, remembering her competition with Lita. "She sure acts like it when you're with me," says Russell. "Serena seems to like you a little as an acquaintance," Mina adds. "She's an okay person. I still can't believe some jock ditched her like that," Russell says, remembering about the guy who dumped Serena. "What we're you like in high school?" Mina asks, curious. "As I said last week, I was the star player on the soccer team. I was also the class Salutatorian," Russell answers. "Smart and athletic, I don't see much of that," Mina comments. "I was what most people would call a 'Scholar Athlete'. I was elected Who's Who Among Japanese High School Students for 3 consecutive years. I was the Class President for my Junior and Senior years. I also received a full scholarship to Azabu Tech," Russell explains. "So you were more of a 'prep' than a jock," says Mina. "I was surely no jock, wasn't a nerd either," says Russell. "So why don't you live at the college?" Mina asks. "I did for a short time, but I didn't get to see Raye that much. I haven't lived with her since I graduated from Crossroads Jr. High. I missed her," Russell replies. "It's great that you're close to your sister. You know, it would be a pain in the butt if I had brother around, always bothering me, teasing me about boyfriends, complaining about being on the phone..." as she continues on. They finally make it into the theater and hand the doorman their tickets, "Theater 7, enjoy the movie," he says, pointing in the direction of Theater 7. They waste no time walking to theater 7. They find some empty seats in one of the rows further back. They take their seats and wait as the seats quickly fill to capacity. Meanwhile, back at the temple... Raye finishes her fire reading. Sweating heavily with anxiety, she grabs her communicator and attempts to call all the scouts. She remembers that Mina's out with Russell and that it would break his heart if she ripped her away from him. So she calls Luna. "Luna, emergency scout meeting. Mina's with Russell and I suggest she not be bothered," she says over the communicator. "At the temple?" Luna asks. "Yes," Raye responds. Within 15 minutes, all but Mina show up at the temple. "What is it Raye," Amy asks. Suddenly, Serena dashes in, sweating like a pig and panting heavily. "Late as usual," Raye comments, "Don't you understand the meaning of 'emergency meeting'?" "Sorry. I ran into Darien on my way here and..." says Serena. "I don't want to hear about it," Raye interrupts. "But he's such a bully. Why doesn't he just remember that we were made for each other," she says. Luna gets their attention before they could stick their tongues out at each other. "What was the emergency?" Lita asks. "What did you find?" Amy also asks. "The Negaverse has sent someone after us. I don't know who..." Raye replies. "I bet it's that Tuxedo Inferno," says Lita, suspicious as usual. "Maybe not," says Amy, "The Negaverse activity explains why they've been sending soldiers as well as their youmas in the past couple of weeks." "Tuxedo Inferno did help us the past three times he's crossed our paths," says Serena. "Maybe he is on our side," Amy suggests. "Or maybe he's a Negacreep trying to trick us," Lita adds. "I don't know what is going on, but I do believe they have placed a price on our heads, or on someone else's," says Raye. "So they're probably sending a bounty hunter," says Amy. "Maybe they're after Tuxedo Mask," says Serena. "Or one of us, all of us, maybe even someone close to us," says Lita. "The only one I know who is close to us is Russell," says Raye. "Not true," Amy disagrees, "There's Molly, Melvin, our families..." "What would they want with Russell?" says Serena, "He's not even a scout." "But he is Raye's brother," says Amy, "And sending someone after him could make a great lure." "They'll most likely make a direct attack," says Luna, "If that person they're sending wants to find us, then he'll attack the people and lure us to him." "Lita, I still have nothing on Tuxedo Inferno, he's probably not an enemy," says Raye. "Is that all Raye?" Luna asks. "That's all," Raye responds. "Keep your communicators and pins handy," says Serena, "I hope they don't attack tonight. We're short one scout until Mina calls us from her date with Russell." The scouts get up and leave, keeping on alert. Back at the Theater... Mina and Russell sit as the movie begins. It has action, adventure, and romance, just as it was advertised. During a romance scene involving the main character and his love, Mina pulls herself close to Russell and lies her head on his shoulder. Russell puts his arm around her shoulder and kisses her on the forehead, holding her tightly. "Great Movie," Mina whispers to Russell. During an action scene involving the main character and the central villain, Mina tightly clutches on to Russell in near fear, just as most of the couples in the theater do, what a scary scene. At the climax of the movie, Mina really squeezes Russell as a battle rages on in the movie. She buries her face into Russell's shoulder, not bearing to see the horror of the good guy losing the battle. "Mina, look," says Russell. Mina looks as the battle continues. The battle ends with the bad guy defeated and the good guy badly wounded with his love by his side. As with most of the girls in the theater, Mina's eyes fill with tears as the good guy dies and his love gives her parting speech. It is indeed the saddest scene of the movie; the light warrior dies for his love, and doing what he's always done best, fighting for what is right. At the end of the movie, everybody gets up from their seats and struggles to get out. Russell and Mina finally make it out and head toward his car. When they get there, she pulls him close, "That was such a great movie." "It's just as they said it was gonna be," says Russell. "It kinda reminds me of those Sailor V stories I've heard so much about, fighting for what is right, like the knights during the times of chivalry." "I really enjoyed it," Mina says as she softly kisses him, then deepens it with much love and passion. She lets go as Russell opens the door for her. He pops his oceanic CD back in as he starts the engine. They struggle through the heavy parking lot traffic and crowds of people waiting to see 'The Light Warrior.' They make it out minutes later as they drive towards Mina's house. He pulls up to Mina's driveway and lets her out. Like a true gentleman, he walks her to the front door. "Thank you Russell, for everything," Mina says as she places her hands on his cheeks and kisses him. She then wraps her arms around him as they kiss with deep emotion. They seal their night together with that kiss. "Good night Mina." "Good night Russell," says Mina, smiling, as she closes the door. Russell hops back into his car and drives off, back towards the temple. ----------------------------------end of chapter 2------------------------- Well, that's Chapter 2. Although he was only a cameo appearance, I've introduced my new villain. To see some real action involving him, read Chapter 3. This seemed to be more about Mina's and Russell's good time together, with a little comic relief, just so I don't bog you down with too much romance. This ain't a romance novel, so it can't be all romance. Hope ya'll enjoyed the fanfic so far, 'cause it gets better. E-mail me at viperdvman@hotmail.com. Have fun Sailor Moon fans, Viper Inferno (Y2V)
