"Russell, time to get up," Raye's voice calls from his door. Russell gets up from his bed to receive a welcoming in the face from a flying snowball. He slowly and calmly wipes it from his face and takes a look at Raye, who's only in her purple nightgown. He only glares at her smiling face as she practically begs for him to chase her. He then grins back at her. "You're mine," he says as he jumps out of the bed right at Raye. She screams as she moves out of the way and out of Russell's room, with him following close behind. They make it to the living room before Russell grabs a hold of his fleeing sister and gives her the tickle treatment, bringing her to the ground in seconds, screaming with laughter. After a short torturing, Russell grabs her again, lifts her off the ground, and props her over his left shoulder. "Aaaagh, put me down," she yells and screams as she kicks her legs and slaps Russell's back and butt. Russell proceeds down the halls and stops at Yuuichiro's door, taking the beating that Raye is giving him. Russell knocks on Yuuichiro's door, grabbing Raye's attention as well as his. "Oh no, you're not getting Yuuichiro to gang up on me," says Raye. Yuuichiro opens the door as Raye relaxes a bit. "Hey Yuuichiro, you know where any good snow drifts are?" Russell asks. "Yeah, there's some in the back yard," Yuuichiro answers. "Oh no, you are not gonna throw me a snowdrift," Raye says as she resumes her kicking and slapping. "Thanks, Yuuichiro," Russell says as he turns around, with Raye's kicking legs nailing Yuuichiro in the face. "Whoa, and she can kick too," Yuuichiro says drunkenly as he falls on his back, seeing stars and losing consciousness. Russell walks through the living room and toward the back door, with Raye still kicking and slapping in a futile effort to free herself. "Put me down, Russell," she says as Russell makes it to the back door, "Put me doooown!" "Gladly," Russell says as he finds a 5-foot snowdrift and tosses Raye in it, as she sinks 2 feet through the powder. Chills run up and down her spine as she begins flailing and thrashing about. She grabs a handful of snow and chucks it at Russell, nailing him on his bare chest, giving him chills as well. "Oh, it's on now, sister," he says as he grabs snow and throws it at Raye. The two scream as they run around the snowy yard, launching snowballs at each other. Fed up with the noise, Grandpa walks to the back door to see his two grandchildren in a snow war with each other. "Hey, you two get back in here before you catch a cold," he says, trying to get them to stop. It is futile, for Grandpa gets double shots of snow up and down his body. "That's it, I'll show you a real snowball fight," Grandpa says as he grabs some snowballs and throws them at his grandchildren, nailing both of them in the face. "Ha, now that's aiming," he says victoriously, only to get pummeled again by Russell and Raye's combined onslaught. Fed up, Grandpa turns around, bends over, and starts paddling snow behind him like a dog digging in the ground, showering Russell and Raye with constant snow. "Alright, alright, Grandpa. We give, we give," says Raye. Grandpa stops and turns back to his grandchildren, "Now you two get back inside before you catch pneumonia." Raye walks toward the door first, then grabs some snow and gets Russell in the chest. Raye then runs toward the back door, with Russell following behind. "GET BACK HERE, WAIT 'TIL I GET MY HANDS ON YOU, YOU LITTLE RUNT," Russell yells as he chases Raye inside and through the temple. Grandpa drops his head as a sweat drop hangs from his head, "Kids, they'll never learn." Back inside, after the chase, Raye runs into the shower first. "Hey, I was gonna take a shower," Russell yells as he bangs on the door. "I'm the one in a freezing wet nightgown," Raye says through the door, "You can dry off and warm up under your blanket." "Well fine then," Russell says as he turns and runs into his room to quickly warm up. "YYYYYAAAAAAAHHHHHH," Raye yells as she steps into the shower, with the lukewarm water coming in contact with her nearly frostbitten skin. Russell laughs at his sister's misfortune. "Now you know how I felt yesterday morning," he says low enough to where only he can hear. After about a half-hour, Raye knocks at Russell's door after finishing her shower. "Shower's yours, Russell," she says. "That's all right," Russell replies, "I'm warm enough now, thanks." Russell gets up and walks over to his wardrobe to find something to wear. He decides to wear blue jeans and a white T-shirt, then he walks out of his room and into the dining room for breakfast. Gabianni walks through the living room, in his winter gear, with Romano and Yuuichiro following. "Where you guys heading off to?" Russell asks. "Out to breakfast," Romano replies, "You wanna come?" "No, you guys go ahead. Maybe some other time," Russell answers. Raye walks into the dining room after the guys leave. She looks at Russell, who seems to be preoccupied. "What's wrong Russell?" Raye asks. "Yesterday's still on my mind," Russell replies, with all the revelations still on his mind. Raye takes her seat across the table from Russell, "Still finding it hard to believe that Sailor Mars is really your little sister?" "I bet you feel the same way about your older brother being Tuxedo Inferno," says Russell. 'He's got a point there,' Raye thinks to herself, "What's on your mind?" "It's mostly the present and how things are becoming so clear about myself," Russell responds. "Really, like what?" Raye asks. "The first time I met you as Sailor Mars, I had this odd feeling, like someone was telepathically calling to me for help. This sense often led to me fighting side by side with the Sailor Scouts. I often wondered what my connection to them was, and how I was getting this sense of someone in danger," Russell explains. "I did doubt you along with Sailor Jupiter, but when she suspected you of being of the Negaverse, I felt something different in you, which led me to wonder who you are, since I didn't remember you from back in the Silver Millennium," says Raye. "I didn't remember anything about my past, except these weird dreams I often had," says Russell. "Really, care to discuss them, if you remember them?" Raye asks. "I sometimes dreamed of friendly sword fights with Tuxedo Mask, but one dream that occurs the most is one of a glamorous ballroom. I assume it's this Moon Palace that Luna was talking about. I remember dancing with one girl, a beautiful princess in a silk, pale blue dress. I remember dancing with her, stargazing with her, sharing complements with her..." Russell explains, then falls into a trance when he mentions his princess. "What I wonder is what made you turn against Titanius when you were controlled by the Negaverse," says Raye. "Oh, I remember that one like it was yesterday," Russell comments, with that dream still vivid in his head, "I was on a vast battlefield with Tuxedo Mask, fighting a legion of soldiers. I saw you as Sailor Mars get fried by some Negaverse General. I then turned into fire and sacrificed myself before I awoke." "That must've been awful," Raye comments. "It wasn't much, but it added fuel to the fire of confusion burning inside me. I had never had that dream of my distant past before. It wasn't until you landed next to me, unconscious, when that very dream flashed in my mind. I had realized what that dream meant. I fought alongside the Sailor Scouts, and I was never of the Negaverse," Russell continues. "Yet, it was me all along that brought you back from Beryl's control," Raye concludes. Russell takes her hands in his. "I realize now that every sense I had that resulted me in transforming into Tuxedo Inferno was you all along, in danger and in need of help. It seems we share more of a special bond than we realize," says Russell. Raye gives his hands a squeeze before slipping them away, "You're my brother, Russell. Of course we share a special bond. Heck, I didn't know I even had a brother in the Silver Millennium, much less you." "I didn't realize I had a sister either. I just remember Sailor Mars as someone I fought alongside with. I never realized she was you until yesterday," says Russell. "We must've shared that same bond a thousand years ago too," says Raye. "I do know who I am, even though I always knew that I was of the planet Mars," says Russell. "Don't tell me, another one of your dreams," Raye guesses. "One of the very first ones I had," Russell replies, "I know who you are, and who Darien is. Speaking of him, it seems our friendship also lasted over a thousand years. I remembered Tuxedo Mask long before I first met the Sailor Scouts in the present, but I never knew that he was my best friend, both in the past and the present," says Russell. Raye gets up from her seat, "Sounds like you have a lot more thinking to do." "I wish it were that easy," says Russell, "There are still a lot of questions unanswered." Raye bends over the table, "Give it some time Russell, it'll all come back to you." Russell thinks about Darien, about the revelation of his identity and their friendship in the Silver Millennium. Then, a hunch comes to thought, "Maybe talking to Darien, or better yet Tuxedo Mask, might help us both to remember our pasts." "It's a goal, Russell. Don't count on him picking up things as quickly or as willing as you did," says Raye. "We'll see Raye," Russell says as he gets up and walks into his room. Negaverse Headquarters... Titanius sits in his chamber, in his tight black T-shirt since his armor sits by a wall, thinking about his recent mission failure, and his victory over the Mars Prince. "They know who he is now, and that makes them more dangerous," Titanius thinks aloud, "He survived my attack, I know it, even though he lost his energy. Yet, this is only the beginning. Someday, the Mars Prince will cross paths with Titanius for the last time. And then, I collect my bounty, and a trophy symbolizing the defeat of my most worthy adversary." A knock at his door fills his dimly lit chamber, interrupting his audible thoughts. "Who is it?" he asks rather harshly. "It is I," Malachite's voice answers through the door, "I have a proposition I wish to discuss with you." "Enter as you wish," Titanius says as he walks over to his armor lying under one of his torches that highlights the greenish tint in the walls. The door opens as Malachite welcomes himself into Titanius' chamber, with a large, rolled-up sheet of paper in his hand. "A plan of action, I take it," Titanius guesses. Malachite remains silent as he takes his seat and unrolls the sheet of paper on the table. "I don't care what Queen Beryl says, I think you're one of the greatest warriors to have come from the Negaverse," Malachite praises, "Your strategy and resourcefulness make an excellent addition to our ranks. I think you did extraordinary in your last battle with the Mars Prince. I don't think you should be worried about this closeness he's developed with the Sailor Scouts after the revelation." Titanius pats on Malachite's shoulder, "Thanks, Malachite. You're a true friend." "I can't take you with me on this mission, but I believe you deserve to know what I have planned," says Malachite. Both men rest their arms on the table as Malachite begins pointing out his plans. "As you heard from Queen Beryl, this will be an energy-gathering mission. Tokyo got 6 inches of new snow yesterday after your battle, so there's still a lot of snow on the ground. Since school all over Tokyo was cancelled today, we can't attack the schools. I can't try your idea of attacking children a second time, even if it worked the last time. That leaves the cafés, where many people will be going to take refuge. Those are my best targets," Malachite explains. "So many targets to chose from," says Titanius. "And most of them are getting good business, especially in the morning," Malachite adds, "Now is the best time to attack." "That leaves two questions: where and how?," says Titanius. "I have one particular one in mind," says Malachite, pointing at a spot on a Tokyo map where the Tour de Corse Café is located, "This one, right near an arcade and a some other hang out places." "Excellent idea," Titanius comments, smiling. "I have a special youma assigned to do this job," Malachite says as he pulls out a picture of a rather ugly snow creature, "I found a few snow-dwelling animals here on earth and mixed them together to make a very nice youma. It is a mix of a polar bear, a wolf, and a snow leopard, with some special powers, and its intelligence far exceeds all three animals. It'll be perfect for this snowy environment." Both men get up from the table and shake hands as Malachite prepares for the attack. "Good luck, Malachite," says Titanius, "Do watch out for both princes and the Sailor Scouts." Malachite only smiles as he opens Titanius' door and leaves the chamber. Tour de Corse Café... Russell slowly pulls into a snow-packed parking spot, surprised that his old little 4-cylinder engine is getting him through the snow in the first place. Hey, if it can pull a thousand-pound trailer, it can do anything. Russell shuts the engine off and shoves his door open with all his might, getting through the snowdrift at the edge of the curb. "How dare they pack the snow in peoples' ways," Russell says to himself. Raye has no problem opening her door since nothing stands in her way. They then walk toward the café, surprised to see the tables on the sidewalk actually occupied by people. "It must be really crowded in there," says Raye. "It must be," Russell agrees as they walk up to the door, and inside. Inside, they see only most of the tables and booths occupied, with a normal sized line of people. Russell and Raye take their seats at a vacant table and talk about Sailor Scout business as if it were small talk. "It sure is crowded here," Raye comments. "You think this is crowded, you should've been here yesterday," Russell rebuts, "Seats here were a rarity. There were people crowding the entire café, buying out the entire inventory." "Yeah, our fire would melt this freeze in an instant," says Raye. "And figure skating would become synchronized swimming, hockey would become water polo, skiing would become..." Russell adds. "Alright, alright, Russell. I get the picture," says Raye, cutting her brother's joke off. "As I was just about to say, Tuxedo Mask often helps us in battle, though sometimes I think he just stands there sometimes and waits for us to be in any real danger before making his appearance," she explains. "Sounds like he's almost obsessed about making a grand entrance," Russell comments, "And I like making grand exits." "Yeah, I'm surprised you don't burn yourself by doing that," says Raye, commenting on how Tuxedo Inferno walks into a field of flames and disappears. "Like you, sis, I too am a 'Pyro' who loves to play with fire. I'm surprised Serena doesn't call me that," says Russell. "You do know that fire has been used in my Shinto practices long before I even knew about being Sailor Mars," Raye says, being careful with her words since people are walking by them, too busy in their own conversations. "I myself have always had a liking for fire," says Russell, then changes the subject, "How did you end up being Sailor Mars?" "Well, it was a short time after the school year had started," Raye explains, "One of the Negaverse generals, namely Jedite, began working at the temple with me. It turned out that he was responsible behind all the kidnappings at the temple." "I remember seeing that on the news," says Russell, "I also called to see if you were all right." "Yes, it was during that battle that Luna had told me that I was Sailor Mars. I already had some natural talent in the use of fire and my anti-evil scrolls," Raye continues on, "So Russell, how'd you come to be Tuxedo Inferno? Did you have some talking cat tell you that?" "Actually, Luna was the first talking cat I met. Anyway, about Tuxedo Inferno, that's a tough story to tell," Russell answers. "I'm listening," says Raye, trying to get her brother to spill his guts. "Well, it first occurred in the summer before I started college, when Dad passed the obsidian jewel ring down to me. I suppose Grandpa's told you the story behind it. Then, I felt a sense of evil nearby, and I felt a strange power emanating from my ring. Something came over me, and the ring glowed. Instinctively, I lifted it in the air and the next thing I knew, I was in a maroon tuxedo and a purple cape," Russell explains. "Sounds like your ESP detected a sense of evil and guided you to transform and battle that evil," Raye assumes. "I almost immediately knew what kind of power I had. I know a little more now than I did then," Russell finishes, "One thing I find odd is that my first transformation occurred... about 6 months ago." "The same time the Sailor Scouts first appeared," Raye adds. "Actually, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus hadn't shown up yet, but it was after I first heard about Sailor Mars. It was after I heard about her, that I had that dream of being of the planet Mars," says Russell. "How long have you been having these dreams of your so-called distant past?" Raye asks. "Actually, I've been having the dreams of this one girl, though only a few, for years now, a short time after I had moved away. But it was after I had transformed into Tuxedo Inferno that I began having more of these princess dreams, my dreams of Tuxedo Mask, and other parts of my past," Russell explains. Suddenly, people outside begin screaming as they jump from their tables and scatter about. Russell and Raye watch as two of the people receive what looks like to be a blast of cold, turning them into solid ice. "What on earth is going on," Russell asks as he and Raye walk up to the window. It is there that they see the real story behind the people's screaming and freezing. "That's one ugly snow beast," Raye comments. "We can take him," says Russell, "we'll show that ugly thing how fire and ice mix." "I say we transform," Raye suggests. "You read my mind Raye," Russell says as they run outside the café and into a nearby alley. Russell raises his obsidian jewel ring as Raye raises her pin. "Mars Power!" Sailor Mars turns around to see Tuxedo Inferno already here. She stands surprised that he was rather silent during his transformation, except for a little fire and other sound effects. "What, no catch phrase?" she asks. "Like I said, me being Tuxedo Inferno came to me through ESP, I let it guide me in using my obsidian jewel ring to transform," Tuxedo Inferno replies. "How unconventional," Raye replies, "Everybody else has a catch phrase." "Not everybody has ESP like you and me," says Tuxedo Inferno as they go out to meet their opponent. The snow youma looks at the sibling superheroes as they emerge from the alleyway. "Ah, the two fire brats have come out to play in the snow," the youma says in a man-and-beast voice. It begins throwing snow at the siblings, utterly distracting them as the youma rushes them and claws them both. Tuxedo Inferno and Sailor Mars recover seconds after their claw attack. "Jeez, this ugly thing's tougher than we thought," Sailor Mars comments. "Then we'll just have to burn it," says Tuxedo Inferno as he waves his hands to his sides, "Inferno, Flame!" With a ball of flame, he catches the youma, but is barely able to even harm it. "Mars Fire, Ignite!" Sailor Mars tries her shot at the youma, but is just as futile as the youma claws her again and bats her around. "Oh, you did not just do that to my sister," Tuxedo Inferno says as he throws his arms in front of him, "Inferno Fire, Beam!" With a more powerful attack, he strikes the thrashing youma in the chest, sending it toward the arcade, but still barely hurting it. "I don't understand, ice is supposed to be weak against fire," Tuxedo Inferno comments. "He must be really powerful," Sailor Mars says as she recovers from her thrashing. "Then I'll have to resort to more... conventional methods," Tuxedo Inferno sys as he draws his flame sword from his obsidian jewel ring, "Let's get him." Tuxedo Inferno and Sailor Mars take it to the youma, with more conventional means, namely Sailor Mars' scrolls and Tuxedo Inferno's sword. They begin making progress as Tuxedo Inferno strikes the snarling beast while Sailor Mars casts the evil energy from it, weakening it. It then regains some energy and slashes at the siblings with authority, slashing their uniforms and sending them flying back to the café. Then, a rose strikes the youma on the jugular, causing it to wince in intense pain. Tuxedo Inferno looks up to find his old friend, Tuxedo Mask, on top of a building. "Warriors of Fire, attack its weak points. That rose will slow it down for you," he says. "If you'd come down here tux boy, we could do it together," says Sailor Mars. Tuxedo Mask lets put a sigh, "She's always the bossy one." He jumps down and pulls his cane out. "My fire dance might help out a little," says Tuxedo Inferno as he charges up. "I'll stun him for you," says Tuxedo Mask as he throws a dozen roses at the youma, striking it on just about every joint on its body. With the youma weakened a bit, Tuxedo Inferno does a couple fancywork with his sword, "Inferno Fire, Dance!" He dances swiftly around the beast, striking it in the weak points that Tuxedo Mask had mentioned and setting it ablaze. Sailor Mars then takes her turn, "Mars Fire, Ignite!" She strikes the weak youma in the heart, burning it alive and causing it to fall to the ground. "You can do it, Tuxedo Inferno," Tuxedo Mask cheer on as Tuxedo Inferno approaches the burning youma. He lifts his blade in the air and pulls out his voice synthesizer. "A MESSAGE FOR TITANIUS AND THE NEGAVERSE," he says in a monotone vibrator-induced voice after placing it to his throat. Fire begins collecting into his blade, setting ablaze. "Flame Sword, Strike!" He strikes the engulfed youma with all his might, further intensifying the fire as the youma screams in bloody pain. After short, horrifying scream, the fire douses as the youma turns into a pile of bones, and then ash. With the youma gone, Tuxedo Inferno turns behind him, where his sister and Tuxedo Mask are standing. Sailor Mars approaches him, while Tuxedo Mask only looks on. "You did great, Sailor Mars and Tuxedo Inferno," he says, "Alone, you fight well with pure spirit. But when you put the spirit of your hearts together, you are great warriors of fire at which nothing can take away that spirit within you. I must go now." Tuxedo Mask then turns and begins to walk. "What are you waiting for, Russell? Perfect opportunity, go get him," Sailor Mars orders, "I'll transform back stay at the café." With that, Tuxedo Inferno makes a huge jump on top of a building, and then next to Tuxedo Mask. "Tuxedo Mask, wait up," Tuxedo Inferno says as he runs up right next to Tuxedo Mask. "What is it, Tuxedo Inferno?" Tuxedo Mask asks. "What do you remember about your distant past?" Tuxedo Inferno asks. "Let's have a seat first," Tuxedo Mask suggests as the two tuxedoed men take their seats on a snow-covered bench. "Actually, I don't remember much about my past, if anything. I do remember this one princess of the moon. I swear, she's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen," Tuxedo Mask explains. Those words strike Tuxedo Inferno like a mallet, bringing back the thoughts of his princess. "I have a princess in my distant past too, and I have the same opinion about her. I know she's here, somewhere," says Tuxedo Inferno. "So you just gotta find her, right?" Tuxedo Mask assumes. "Yeah, I don't remember what she looked like, I just know she's here. Do you remember anything else, like who you are, who your friends were, or what happened in the past?" Tuxedo Inferno asks. "Other than the Moon Princess, nothing," Tuxedo Mask replies. "My princess isn't all I remember. Something about yesterday's battle brought back some memories, and events I had long forgotten somehow. I know who I am, and I know who you are," says Tuxedo Inferno. "Neither I nor the Sailor Scouts know who either of us are," says Tuxedo Mask. "The Scouts know who I am, I am, or was the Prince of the Mars Kingdom. I do remember you from my past; you and I were best friends. I remembered a little about that even before yesterday's revelation," Tuxedo Inferno explains. "Whoa, Prince of the Mars Kingdom, then I must be some kind of prince, if I were in love with the Moon Princess," says Tuxedo Mask. "Sailor Mars is my younger sister, both from the past and the present," says Tuxedo Inferno. "No wonder you have this strong connection with her. I've seen how you react to her being in danger, and how closely you two fought together," says Tuxedo Mask. "Her being attacked by Titanius is what made me turn my back on the Negaverse when they had control over me," says Tuxedo Inferno. "But how do you know me is what I wonder," says Tuxedo Mask. "Not only was I your best friend in the past, but I am your best friend in the present, Darien," says Tuxedo Inferno. "You're kidding," Tuxedo Mask doubts. "In the past, I was Prince Russell of the Mars Kingdom. And I am Russell Hino, your best friend and a warrior of fire," says Tuxedo Inferno. "You're not Russell Hino," says Tuxedo Mask, doubting even more. "Then I have to resort to this," says Tuxedo Inferno. He looks around to see if anyone else besides them are around, nobody. To he activates his obsidian jewel ring and removes his transformation. Tuxedo Mask almost jumps on top of the adjacent building at the sight of his best friend being Tuxedo Inferno. "Remember yesterday, Darien? The café was so crowded with freezing customers that we were hardly able to move. You ordered the Swiss mocha and I ordered cappuccino. Remember about me watching Amy study outside?" Russell says, trying to get Tuxedo Mask to realize that this is for real. "Russell? It is you," says Tuxedo Mask as Russell transforms again to Tuxedo Inferno. "I never knew we could be best friends in both the past and the present. All I remember is who I am and that we we're best friends. There is still a lot about both you and me that we don't remember. Let's take that journey together, Darien," says Tuxedo Inferno. "Together, protectors of the Sailor Scouts with little memories of their pasts?" says Tuxedo Mask. "We'll remember everything, someday. For now, let's put our hearts together and fight for what is right, and for what is true," says Tuxedo Inferno. "For love and justice," Tuxedo Mask says as the two tuxedoed men do their secret handshake. "YEAH," they say in unison. Tuxedo Mask turns and makes his way home, "Tomorrow, Russell?" "Tomorrow, Darien," Tuxedo Inferno replies as he walks into the alleyway to removes his transformation, then makes his way back to the café where Raye awaits him. ------------------------------end of chapter 4------------------------- Well, there's Chapter 4. I know that this lacked some of the action that the previous chapters had, but we're talking resolving conflicts here, the falling action. The ending, however, turned out pretty good. Raye and Russell become closer together, fighting against evil as brother and sister. Darien's and Russell's friendship become even stronger after similarities, common causes, and even parts of their pasts are realized. This was the purpose of Chapter 4, to end the story in this manner. The Epilogue is next, which reveals a little more.
